Using Stress Test

Using stress test - getting stress level

For a number of years now, doctors have been using different tools to determine the state of our mind and body. This is a process called biofeedback and has come from the belief that certain mental and physical occurrences produces differing physiological reactions. Such reactions include increased temperature and heart rate, among many others. A blood pressure gauge and a thermometer are just two of the most common biofeedback device. Stress monitors are also designed as such.

Stress Monitor card. At present, there are three kinds of stress monitors available today – the stress monitor card, the biodots and the PC stress monitor. There is also non-invasive PET imaging but this is used mostly in clinics specializing at monitoring stress and its different effects to both the mind and body.

The stress monitor card has crystal in front of it, and you will be required to hold your thumb on the crystal for at least 10 seconds. Depending on your skin’s galvanic response and temperature, the stress monitor will be able to determine how stressed or relaxed you are.

The crystal will change its color to blue if you are very relaxed, green means that you are calm, and read means that your are tense. Sometimes the crystal stays black. This also means that you are stressed. Most people will show black just after waking from sleep. Also, people who smoke will often show black on the stress monitor because of the stressed caused by the nicotine in their bodies. Most stress monitor cards have a calm technique printed at the back to help you establish a more peaceful state.

Stress Test via biodots. Biodots arework the same way, but the difference is that you will place a biodot in the skin between your thumb and index finger. Within 30 minutes, it will show you a reading of your stress level. Black means very stressed, brown means stressed, yellow stands for unsettled, green is thinking, aqua is relaxing, blue is calm and purple is very calm. Each of these colors also corresponds to a range of temperatures.

The ability to monitor your stress level real time has a lot of implications, the most important of which is that you get the capability to control it. It will remind you to take note of how you feel at anytime of the day and you can take action to bring yourself into a state of calm. We’ve been told before – stress is a state of mind, it is not a sickness. You only get stressed if you allow stressors to get into your nerves.

Here are several examples how such stress monitors can help you discover and reduce stress:

  • You’re sitting in traffic for hours now and you notice your stress monitor changing to black. To counter this, you can listen to a relaxing song or do your breathing exercises to calm yourself quickly.
  • You’ve been sitting in front of your computer and you notice your stress monitor turning to brown or red. You can take a 10-minute break which you can use to rest your eyes, massage your hands or however you want to spend it.
